Kuznetsova, now competing for Bulgaria went well trough her apparatusses. She couldn't make an impact tough, suffering from low SV. Evgenia was watched closely by former coach Leonid Arkayev who yelled GO ZHENYA! to encourage her. She scored a 8.950 (SV 9.600) on beam she stumbled her dismount and lost an important connection what brought back the startvalue. She moved into 6th position in front of Oksana Chusovitina UZB, who is doing quite good.
Zamolodchikova is out of competition. After a fall from beam she got on again but was clearely in pain. She ended her routine with a simple back tuck. Privalova is also out of competition, she fractured her food during training. Zasipkina fell twice of beam once on a front walkover, second time on a ff-whip. Khorkina had a huge wobble scoring 8.600 out of 9.600 SV. Ezhova saved the russians from a complete beam dissaster with a 9.612 score and big hug from Sveta's side. Russia scored the highest on bars with of course, Khorkina scoring 9.662, the highest score on that apparatus till now.
Here come the Dutch once more! The team was under high pressure. The whole gym world expected everything from them, and ... they are currently qualified as second team after USA and in front of RUSSIA! Verona van de Leur placed in front of Tasha Schwikert from USA and Gabriella Wammes equilled her score to Tasha's putting her in second place also.
Belgians Jessica Jans has a chance of qualifying for the AA final! This comes totally unexpected as Belgians hope was set for national champion and Olympic Sigrid Persoon.
Also appeared in Gent of course Nadia Comaneci, the gymnastics legend of Romania, and Oksana Omilianchik sad in the crowds during podium training.
Ukraīne wasn't training that good but did show very difficult routines. The have a 7 headed team with Irina Yarodskaya who didn't train vault due to a taped ankle. She only did beam and bars. Olga Roshupkina trained well on all apparatus. Natalia Serobaba had a good tumble on floor: layout front punch double front pass
Canada struggled the tumbling on floor exercise training with Kate Richardson and Crystal Gilmore.
Bulgaria brought sunshine in the hall with Yevgenia Kuznetsova former Russian gymnast. She looked good and has gorgeous beam work (as always) and was very good on floor too where she tumbled piked full-in, 2 1/2 twist to punch layout-front-full, and triple twist.. Certainly one of the better gymnasts. She'll lead the four-member team of Bulgaria. It's her first major competition for Bulgaria since she moved there in 2000-2001. She was an olympian in 1996 and has been to worlds with the russian team in 1995, 1997, 1999 and was the reserve for the Olympic National Team because the federation chose younger gymnasts over her to compete.
Mexico has a team in Gent with leader Brenda Magaņa, a gymnast filled with energy. She performed a full-twisting Gienger on bars and landed a TRIPLE back dismount. She also tumbled a double layout, Arabian double front, and piked-full in on floor, and vaulted a Podkopayeva.
Romania looks confident in the podium trainings. Andreea Raducan seems to be in shape again altough she injured her knee over summer and it is still taped. She, Silvia Stoescu and Andreea Ulmeanu tubled double layouts and Raducan, Sabina Cocojar and Carmen Ionescu stuck their full-twisting somersaults on beam.
Russia was struggling in practice with Yelena Zamolodchikova who injured her leg. It's swollen and completely wrapped, she trained trough it anyways. With new skills likefull-twisting back handspring, back handspring, layout stepout, and back tuck to Rulfova on beam. Ludmila Yezhova has trained her beam consistently but fell several times of her other good apparatus bars. Natalia Ziganshina and Maria Zasipkina trained standing arabians somersaults on beam. Ekatarina Privalova has submitted a new element a stalder with closed legs, it received a D rating. but she hasn't trained because of an injury on her foot. An other gymnast who submitted a new element is Brenda Magaņa of Mexico who introduced a triple back dismount on bars, it received a Super-E rating.
Spain has a 7 headed team with 17 year old Moro as Captain, Laura Martinez earlier injured her knee, had gone trough surgery and is beginning rehabilitation. Esther Moya on the other hand is not in top shape and it's possible that she doesn't compete on floor, where she ended 4 in Olympic finals. Sara Moro worked out double twisting Yurchenko's on vault, normally not the strongest point of Spain. Also a new beam combination for her: back handspring, layout stepout, Rulfova
Japan withdrew while America is in Gent with Tasha Schwikert as team captain, Tabitha Yim, second at nationals and Mohini Bhardwaj as far as I know.
The chinese womens team won't send a complete team, but only one gymnast: Sun Xiaojiao. The men probably won't be able to defend their title neither cause China send a B-team.
